What travelers are saying
"The cooking class was the highlight of our trip. The market tour was fascinating, the basket boat ride was so much fun, and we cooked four dishes we still make at home. Easily the best thing we did in Hoi An."
"The Golden Bridge was worth the early start. The cable car ride up is incredible, the French Village is fun, and we beat the crowds. Well organized and an easy day from Hoi An. Highly recommend."
"Going to My Son at sunrise made all the difference. Cool air, soft light and hardly anyone around the Cham ruins. The boat ride back to Hoi An was a lovely finish. A real highlight."
The essentials are the lantern-lit UNESCO old town at dusk, a hands-on cooking class with a market tour and basket boat ride, and one big day trip to the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills or the My Son Cham ruins. Two to three days covers it comfortably.
Two to three days is the sweet spot. One day for the old town and a cooking class, a second for a day trip to Ba Na Hills or My Son, and an optional third for the beach, basket boats or a countryside bike ride.
Ba Na Hills, home of the Golden Bridge, is about 90 minutes from Hoi An past Da Nang. Almost everyone visits on a small-group day tour from around $21 that bundles the round-trip transfer, the cable car and the park entrance. Go early to beat the crowds and the afternoon cloud.
February to August is the dry season and the most comfortable window. October and November are the wettest months and carry a real flood risk in the low-lying old town. Whenever you go, try to be here for one full-moon evening for the monthly lantern festival.
Walking the streets, shopping and eating in the old town is free. A 120,000 VND ticket, about $5, is required to enter five of the historic houses, assembly halls and museums. You buy it at booths around the edge of the old town.
Both options exist. Shared group tours are the best value and a sociable way to travel. Private tours cost more but let you set the pace, stop for photos, and tailor the route. Each tour page on this guide notes whether it is private or shared.
A few days ahead is plenty for most things, and free cancellation means little risk in booking early. The top-rated cooking classes and small-group day trips to Ba Na Hills and My Son fill up in peak season, so reserve those sooner.
Yes. Most tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure are non-refundable. Check the specific tour for details.
